A Maine-Sized Hole Has Opened up in Antarctica’s Ice BlanketScientists have observed that a polynya in the Antarctic ice blanket is much larger this year than when it appeared last year. Before 2016, the hole hadn't formed in around 40 years, and no one is sure why it is reemerging now.
