Appeal offers hope for Sandy Hook families in suit against gun companies

In a Supreme Court case to be heard on Wednesday, lawyers will deploy a novel strategy that they say could pierce the sweeping shield created by federal law that protects gun companies from litigation and has thwarted countless lawsuits after their weapons were used to commit crimes.
