couch and participate in some exercise with us this morning that's right it can be stressful this holiday season so yoga can be a good de-stresser jamal is this the first time you've ever done yoga in a very long time hara from southern seoul yoga here with us this morning thanks so much for being here tell us about the importance of yoga why we should all do this some of us run some of us workout tell us why you gur it's important so yoga is a huge stress reliever it lowers your blood pressure your cortisol levels helps you sleep better breathing with awareness and it doesn't matter how strong you are if you don't have any flexibility you can't move your body so we're gonna not only get stronger in yoga but we're gonna stretch and open our muscles and our fascia so that we can move with ease okay teach us some of the male's please so really basic we'll start off in child's pose so bring your knees wide and your toes together sit your hips back onto your heels do you want to try to keep your hip back as you reach your arms forward and bring your forehead down to the ground yeah so this is stretching the whole back side of your body really opening the hips your shoulders and just grounding you and kind of bringing you into your body and then from here we're gonna come up on to our hands and knees i'm just going to find a tabletop position stacking shoulders over wrists hips over knees we're gonna inhale let your gaze and your tailbone and as you exhale you're gonna round your back just do that a couple more times exhale why is this important as we all age so as we age the fascia and the connective tissue in our body starts to shrink wrap and tighten around our muscles and it really limits our mobility so doing these movements and stretching and opening that connective tissue helps keep your body really youthful and young and helps you to move with ease so we'll do one more pose so from here you're gonna tuck your toes under and lift your knees finding downward facing dog you're gonna look like an inverted v yeah and then take your gaze back between your feet okay okay so down dog is strengthening and stretching your whole body so everything is working here i really feel the stretch yeah this is a hard post you're stretching the whole back side of your body all the way down the leg the back of the legs your shoulders you're getting strong cuz you're supporting your body weight with your arm in your legs so your stretch stretching and strengthening at the same time and this is a really common pose that we do in almost every yoga class you know instead of running or working out all the time you know this is a great option for folks at home and you know some folks don't think oh i can't get the muscle that i want by doing this but you really can you can i have people all the time stop me and they're like so what do you do besides the oh god i'm like i don't do anything and they're like well your arms are so strong and like it's from doing all the yoga from doing down dog and chaturanga push-ups and you can get really strong with yoga but you can also be really flexible and supple and open up the connective tissue and the muscles in your body plus that also he stresses us a lot yeah so lowers blood pressure cortisol levels in the body heart rate so it's really important especially during the holidays it's so stressful it is so it helps to kind of keep you a little bit more grounded so if folks want to check out your studio during the holidays tell us a little bit more about where it is and the location is well diamond soul yoga we are located across from - north shore our into north shore across from whole foods website is southern soul yoga calm and we have some great specials for beginners $30 for 30 days of yoga so if you've never done it you come in and just try it and find all the benefit thanks sara so much for bein here with us thank you for having me this morning we'll have more news 12 now this morning coming your way right after the break your time saver traffic report is sponsored in part by.. atlas
