somehting like that around my son but there's really nothing i could do about it. jon officails are charging rey with making a terroristic threat. fortunately at the end of the day no one was injured. terri thanks for joining us, i'm terri furman. jon i'm jon hansen. the history of texas changed when a 26-year-old man walked inside the sutherland springs baptist church with a gun and killed 26- people and injured dozens more. terri we continue to see this destruction and devestation all across the country. that's why local law enforcement is teaching around the city with their efforts to keep citizens safe. terri klbk's "elizabeth pace" sat down the lubbock police department for their active shooter training. she joins us live in the studio with more, elizabeth? elizabeth we've seen this crime in the south plains at a local high schools and more recently at texas tech. this training is for the unarmed citizen. it's not to scare you, but actually do the opposite and prepare you in a life-threatening situation. keep in mind, these are skills coming from a member of l-p-d's swat team to give you the highest training for a civilian.

"a church shooting in texas, columbine high school, the naval ship yard, pathmark grocery stores in new jersey, we could name a whole list of them. this is a scene that involves chaos." when a gunman opens fire on unarmed civilians, there's a gap of time when law enforcement hasn't arrived yet. that's who lubbock police detective 'chris paine' is talking to in this training. what you can do until help arrives. chris paine// training instructor, lpd detective "i believe in this material, i believe in it as something to help keep yourself safe, keep others safe in the midst of a mass shooting situation. odds are overwhleming in your favor already. then you add training, and preparation, some forethought on this matter. chances for us to be overwhlemingly successful in this situation increase 100 fold." a-d-d-- avoid, deny and defend. this is your stragedy moving forward. chris paine// training instructor, lpd detective but he took it one step further. he went around our station showing us the tools and strategies we could use in this scenerio. elizabeth pace//klbk news "officer paine taught us that you can use any room as a tool to defend yourself. like surviellance video, it gives you eye across the building." for more than a decade, paine has collected this information by researching each mass shooting and talking to survivors. he says it's now essential to train our communities. chris paine// training instructor, lpd detective as a society we have grown to hear these stories in this nation and that did not used to be the case. but now we've evolved as crime has evolved. it provides security and confidence so society can maintain it's daily order. elizabeth we saw this training even hits home to paine during the session because it's more we saw this training even hits home to paine during the session because it's more frequently than ever before and now closer to home. we know both of you went through the training, what's something you all learned as a take away from this? jon last week we told you about
