Sydney Metro is a fully-automated rapid transit system located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is being supplemented with trackwork style rail replacement buses for late night services from Sundays to Wednesdays in the first six months of operation. It commenced operations on 26 May 2019. Sydney was the first Australian city to envision a fully automated metro system. The network is controlled by the Sydney Metro agency, established in July 2018 as an agency of New South Wales Government's transport authority Transport for NSW. As of April 2019, Jon Lamonte is the Chief Executive of the agency.. As it is controlled by a Transport for NSW agency, the metro network will also be part of the Opal ticketing system. It is operated by Metro Trains Sydney.
