Queensland Health is a ministerial department of the Queensland Government responsible for operating the state's public health system and is one of the oldest government departments. The minister for health and ambulance services has overall responsibility for the department, while the director-general and chief health officer manage day-to-day operational and clinical activities. Queensland Health includes the department proper, 16 local Hospital and Health Services throughout Queensland, and a range of related foundations and authorities. The department employs over 90,000 staff and has an annual operating budget of A$19.23 billion in 2019–20.
