Talisman Mining about to get drill spinning at Lachlan Copper Gold Project in NSW
Monday, 28 October 2019 Talisman Mining Ltd (ASX:TLM) is set to begin a reverse circulation (RC) program this week across five high-priority gold-in-soil anomalies identified in recent reconnaissance work within the southern region of the Lachlan Copper-Gold Project in NSW. The program will be the first drill testing of geochemical anomalies identified from a regional sampling campaign earlier this year. This is the next step in the company’s systematic geological approach of effectively identifying and testing a pipeline of high-potential exploration opportunities at the Lachlan project where potential exists for the discovery of multiple styles of mineralisation. MMJ Drilling has been appointed as drill contractor and has mobilised a drill rig to site with RC drilling to begin by the end of this month. Drill testing of anomalies The program consists of 2,600 metres of RC drilling in 24 holes across five targets areas including: A large high-grade gold-in-soil anomaly at the Hardings prospect extending over 1 kilometre with a peak of more than 500ppb gold; Twin parallel high-grade gold-in-soil anomalies at the more than 2-kilometre Melrose prospect with a peak of more than 400ppb gold; Gold-in soil anomalies along the Mineral Hill corridor at Kaolin Shaf and Brooklyn; and A large gold-in-soil anomaly at the Blind Calf gold prospect. The drill programs submitted to and approved by the NSW Department of Planning and Energy (DPE) allow a maximum of 8,000 metres across around 50 RC drill holes within certain parameters. This provides scope for additional drilling within or following the forthcoming campaign, which will be determined by results. Blind Calf An application has been submitted to the DPE to drill three diamond drill holes at high-grade Blind Calf copper lodes to retest the extensional targets from the July 2019 program following completion of regional drill testing. A second application is close to submission to RC drill test five downhole electromagnetic (EM) conductors identified across the Blind Calf region. Regional geochemical sampling An extensive soil geochemical sampling campaign encompassing a collection of more than 3,000 samples has also begun. This reconnaissance program is focused on testing several stage-1 targets across the project area with the aim of identifying new high priority targets for drill testing in 2020. The campaign will extend to the northwest of the Melrose prospect, which lies within Talisman’s tenure. Gold assay results have identified an anomaly at the Melrose prospect extending more than 2.2 kilometres which remains open to the north and returned a peak assay value of more than 400ppb gold in soils. Surface verification of this gold anomaly has identified a strongly altered gossanous unit and quartz veining in a sequence of altered volcanic rocks.
