New Super Smash Bros Reveals Include Huge Fan Favorite Charactersby

Super Smash Bros is undoubtedly one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises of the now, and it has been for considerable years – the five previous instalments (two were the same game issued to different systems) have gradually added to a growing roster of Nintendo franchised fighters, allowing players to pit Mario up against Sonic, Pac-Man, Street Fighter’s Ryu, Samus Aran, Yoshi, Pikachu and many many more. The announcement this year of Super Smash Bros Ultimate – which will head to the Nintendo Switch console crammed with over 65 different fighters and 103 stages to fight on – promises to be the biggest celebration of the franchise bar none. This week, a ‘Nintendo Direct’ uploaded by the firm (which reveals upcoming game news and direct features from creators) showed off five new characters being added to the roster – some completely unexpected, and one or two being enormous fan favorites.

Simon Belmont – the original star of the classic Castlevania series – is making his debut in the game at last, alongside his descendant, Richter – finally bringing the celebrated Konami action platformer into the world of Smash. Jumping on the Castlevania bandwagon makes timely sense – as the animated series continues to win fans over on Netflix. Joining them are Chrom, an additional character from the expansive Fire Emblem line-up, and Dark Samus – a sinister version of the Metroid protagonist previously seen in the Prime series of games.

Finally, a further fan favorite – one who has been requested by players for years on end – arrives on the scene in the form of Donkey Kong nemesis King K Rool, a sinister, overweight reptile with a wonky crown and a taste for violence. The character has been a popular request for Smash fans alongside Metroid’s Ridley, who at last joins the line-up in this latest instalment. It’s safe to say it’s shaping up to be the ultimate – pun intended – celebration of all things Smash.

Add in elimination modes, tournaments, assist trophy reveals and many more – and you have a rolling reveal for a game that’s set to be one of the biggest sellers this holiday season. Set to land in December, creator Masahiro Sakurai stated that the team are still hard at work getting the game finished and ready – and that all characters will be revealed before the launch. With one particular game mode remaining a guarded secret by Nintendo, does this mean we’ll see even more fighters and extras revealed? Never say never…
