Ellen DeGeneres lauded as LGBT rights influence after receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom

As one of his final formal engagements as President, Barack Obama honoured 21 groundbreaking artists, athletes, musicians and innovators the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The list of recipients included Tom Hanks, Diana Ross, Robert De Niro and Michael Jordan- but it was funny-woman Ellen DeGeneres whose emotional moment with Obama captured the room.
