Darjeeling unrest: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha led indefinite strike enters 9th day

Darjeeling (West Bengal) June 20 (ANI): The indefinite strike called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) entered its ninth day on Tuesday mo ing. The shutdown’s effect could be seen on the streets and markets of the town as the whole region is under a volatile situation. There have been many cases of tourists and visitors being stranded because of the shutdown. Earlier as many as 81 NCC students were rescued by the army who were stuck because of the unavailability of transportation. The protests erupted with regard to the demand of a separate state, ‘Gorkhaland’, by the GJM workers. The outraged agitators also opposed the alleged imposition of Bengali as compulsory language in state schools
