Have Apple Acknowledged the Latest iPhone Problems?by 👩‍💻 Alice Monroe

Apple’s latest tech release a few weeks ago was, of course, a headline-grabbing affair. No other technology brand appears to tout such mania as Apple, even in recent years where it has been faced with criticism over an alleged wane in innovation. Therefore, the world pretty much waited with baited breath this September to take a look at exactly what Tim Cook had to unveil at the firm’s latest invite-only event – and the result was the latest range of iPhones, the XS, XS Max and XR, as well as a brand new Apple Watch. Only – after considerable testing and reviewing having been undertaken on the XS range in particular, there have been continued concerns over quite whether or not the new devices have what it takes to stand up to the rest of the market in terms of battery life and longevity in general.

Beyond this, however, it seems that problems in a recent release of the iPhone and iPad operating system, iOS, have been the ire of Apple fans the world over. Recent news has reverberated around tech blogs and specialist columns that many iPhones were struggling to charge, even when plugged into a wall, or when left on standby. Lewis Hilsenteger, known online for his Unbox Therapy tech guide, reportedly tested eight brand new XS and XS Max devices and found that only two of them – 25% - were able to charge correctly in the situations described. It’s also thought that these problems may have been affecting older iPhones, too:

The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are exhibiting some strange behavior. Users are reporting trouble charging their devices. Some are calling the latest iPhone XS issue #ChargeGate (Unbox Therapy via YouTube)

Some tech blogs are insinuating that Apple may have responded to this issue by ushering out a new beta version of iOS 12.1 – though if sources are to be believed, users may not be able to upgrade onto a full version of the software until the end of October. This, it seems, could leave new owners of the supposedly high-end performers, XS and XS Max, without a firm fix for charging woes for around a month. That’s a fair amount of time to be waiting for a battery patch to arrive!

While Apple are reportedly working on said fix, it seems that this news is the latest in a line of negative press surrounding the new line of iPhones and their batteries. Will the devices stand the test of time? Or will it be back to the drawing board for 2019?
