How Long Has Trump Been Vocal About Global Warming? Check His Twitter Historyby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

Anyone following world politics will this week likely already know that US President Donald Trump has opted to remove the US from the landmark Paris Climate Agreement, a mandate whereby 195 different nations around the world have committed to tackle the rising threat of global warming – and, as a result, many high profile figures and organizations around the world are alarmed at how his decision may affect world unity on the subject of the environment. The US is, reportedly, second in the list of the world’s most polluting countries, and the President’s decision to remove the US from the mandate has been received with widespread concern. It is the latest in a line of decisions made by Trump and his administration to have been received with such concern, and this particular move may have knock-on effects for both US citizens and the world at large.

Former President Barack Obama, a champion of the scheme, has already been vocal about Trump’s decision to take the States out of the Paris Agreement – but, with a little digging, eagle-eyed Twitter followers of the President may already know that he has been vocal about the concept of climate change long before he ran for Presidency. While Trump may have been rather tight-lipped on why he has chosen to remove the US from the global alliance – you have to go back in time to November 2012 to see exactly where he stands.

On November 6th 2012, Trump tweeted: ‘The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive’. This is not his only public statement regarding the changing planet – in fact, Vox has collated over 100 tweets from the President, many from long before he sat in the Oval Office. Many have quoted his thoughts regarding how he believes the concept to be fake in jest – but if his recent decisions are anything to go by, it’s clear he may well believe much of what he’s been saying all of these years.

Trump’s approval rating in the wider public continues to stumble as there are ongoing controversies and big moves such as this week’s removal from the climate alliance – however, the President still has a strong core of supporters, and it will be interesting to see how he and the White House weather this latest twist in the tale.
