Judge says downing of MH17 'almost incomprehensible' as murder trial begins
Monday, 9 March 2020 Three Russians and a Ukrainian went on trial in absentia in the Dutch capital on Monday charged with murder in the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in 2014, killing all 298 passengers and crew.
President Donald Trump has denied being briefed about Russians offering bounties to Taliban militants to kill US and coalition troops. But according to CNN, that claim is disputed by multiple people who briefed Trump, were present for briefings, and prepared the briefings. However, they say Trump's resistance to the information led his national security team to brief him verbally less often on Russia-related threats to the US.
Air India flight from Ukraine landed at Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport. The flight carrying 144 Indians landed in Madhya Pradesh's Indore on June 30. District Health Department screened the passengers upon their arrival. Repatriation process of stranded Indian nationals from abroad is underway. Indian citizens are being evacuated from across the globe under Centre's Vande Bharat Mission.
Business Insider reports that Joe Biden's presidential campaign says it's limiting members' interaction with foreign officials. A campaign official told Politico that President Donald Trump had created a "poisonous environment" around interacting with other countries. Trump was impeached over his dealings with Ukraine, and has also faced scrutiny for his interactions with Russia and China. Trump was acquitted over Ukraine in February by the Republican-controlled Senate.
The targeting of colonial-era monuments in some Western nations has prompted activists in Russia and Ukraine to reflect on how their own countries dealt with Soviet-era statues and, in some cases, to ask whether it was good enough. Joe Davies reports.
