Miller Park renovations

we are getting a look inside the new miller park renovations.. the multi-million dollar project is scheduled to wrap up later this summer.... new's 12's angela moryan joins us now live in studio. angela, when can we expect the new park to open? john and emily, i walked around miller park today with mayor andy berke and other city officials. they tell me they plan to have the park open by mid-july -- which is exciting news for many that live and work in the area. one of the city's biggest projects finally has a completion date. the miller park facelift is scheduled for completion in july.. and is costing about 10-point-3 million dollars. private investors like bluecross and epb are funding 60 percent of the price tag. and mayor andy berke says this is one more step forward in the revitalization of the city. berke: chattanooga is a place where we've done things big. look at our waterfront, look at the things we've done over the course of the last couple decades. we tell a new story by doing big things, and it's not just about the places but it's about the people. and the people we spoke with are excited about the new outdoors space. burch: i think it will be a great atmosphere, great place to hang out. it will be fun. bobby wood: i'm going going over there to eat. i'm gonna sit over there and eat, like i'm doing now. 40-thousand people pass by the park each day, whether on foot or on wheels. and the city expects the new park to generate revenue for new projects all over the area. berke: the growth that we have downtown is suplementing our tax base and growing that. and we can use those funds to do projects in neighborhoods. so that it's not just about downtown, but it's about building out the whole city. mayor berke says the new park will be a place for tourists and residents to enjoy together. berke: liveable cities are lovable. and we know that miller park is a big piece of that. wood: i'm excited. city officials tell me that they will finally reopen that section of ml king boulevard next wednesday. however, prepare for some delays on georgia avenue. the city will close one block of the avenue right by the volunteer building to do some under ground work. reporting live in studio, angela moryan, news 12 now. now, from the epb fiberoptics
