3#@matt painter >> we sit here every #@matt painter >> 3we sit talk but i really believe this crew ... their best basketball is ahead of them (crowd cheers). greg gumbel >> rounding out the east region play the number two seed in the east the purdue boilermakers and they will meet cal state fullerton.@# 3>> hello everyone and welcome to remember the boilermakers .. alongside caleb noe .. i'm andrew pogar.before we begin .. it's worth sharing we developed the show name before purdue learned of its first round opponent .. the cal state fullerton titans.. funny coincidence .. anyway .. purdue's road to san antonio .. this site of this year's final four begins on friday at 12:40 in detroit ...>> the boilermakers earning the the boilermakers earning the number two seed in the east region. it's the team's highest seed in the last 20 years.. the gold and black were a 2-seed back in 1998.>> taking a look at the top half of the region which is located on the left side of your screen.villanova the top seed ..they'll get the winner of liu brooklyn and radford. virginia tech taking on bama in the eight-nine game.and the shockers.. wichita state facing c-usa champ, marshall. five-seeded west virginia to face murray state.>> and there's that purdue versus cal state fullerton game.winner of that gets the winner of arkansas and butler.texas tech going head-to-head with stephen f. austin.and florida to square off with either st. bonaventure or ucla in a 6-11 matchup. 3>> cal state fullerton is dancing for the third time in school history.. the first time since 2008.caleb.. the titans winning the big west conference championship..>> and catching fire at the right time..head coach dedrique taylor and company checked-into their conference tournament as the number four seed .. #@cal state fullerton is going to the ncaa tournament.@#>>cs-fullerton beating uc irvine to punch its ticket..the titans, 20-and-11 this season.. they've won won 8 of their last 10 games. now from a personnel standpoint ... áfullerton, paced by it's guard play .. some names to get famliar with..ákyle allman led the big-west conference in scoring at just over 19 points a game.ákhalil ahmad averages 15 points. 3#@matt painter >> allman is a guy that is very similar to corey sanders in our league in terms of his ability to make plays. ahman is a guy that will post you a little bit, knock down 3s. @# 3>> now as for the titans frontcourt ..at 6-foot-7.. jackson rowe tallies 12-and-7 per contest.and in case you were wondering ... the tallest player on the titans roster that gets significant p-t? that's arkim robertson.the 6'9 senior big man averages just over 5 points and 4 boards.so the titans clearly are guard-dependent.. and defensively, purdue will need to key on that. 3#@dakota mathias >> whenever theres a big time scorer we just wnna make it tough on him make him as inefficient as possible. just play our game. make it tough on them get in the passing lanes, disrupt them as much as possible, push them out, and from there just take good shots offensively.@# 3>> now one other thing about purdue's upcoming opponent which i found interesting .. the cal state fullerton titans' mascot is an elephant named tuffy the titan ...>> you didn't know that?... no seriously.. andy pogar, leaving no rock un-turned in his research.so we've looked at what's to come for purdue .. now it's time to look back at how the boilermakers got here ..#@crowd cheers@#>> purdue opened the season raising its big ten regular season championship banner to the mackey arena rafters ..the boilers then went on to rout southern illinois edwardsville ..the gold and black subsequently won its next three before losing back-to- back games to tennessee and western kentucky in the battle 4 atlantis.>> matt painter's group wrapped up atlantis play beating no. 2 arizona ..the first of 19 straight wins.. that's a school record .. notable w's coming against louisville .. butler .. michigan twice .. and rival indiana in bloomington.>> purdue dropped its next three contests by a combined eight points.but rebounded with victories over penn state ... illinois .. a game which carsen edwards scored 40 points and minnesota on senior day.>> the boilermakers entered this year's big ten tournament at madison square garden as the no. 3 seed.they defeated rutgers in quarterfinal action .. the nittany lions in the semis before falling to michigan in the title game. 3>> 28 wins .. 6 losses ... 4 seniors .. >> four years ago ... those four seniors: vincent edwards ... isaac haas ... dakota mathias and p-j thompson joined a boilermaker squad coming off a last place finish in the big ten.four years later ... those four seniors ... older .. wiser and clean cut are on the homestretch of their college careers ..>> with that said ... those four seniors recently had a chance to reflect on their time, here in west lafayette, and beyond... take a firstname.lastname@example.org. thompson >> we're out here in spain, day one, a little tired. it's my first time. we'll make it a great time i promise you that. just being in another country with your teammates. it was a great experience. vincent edwards >> we had a lot of fun on that trip. a lot of guys grew closer together. dakota mathias >> winning the big ten on our home court against iu last year. isaac > beating 3indiana for the first dakota mathias >> we've been through a lot together, a lot together. senior night. seeing all the fans. i think it was special to see all the fans stay after the game to hear us talk a little bit. i think that says a lot about what we've done here the last four years. vincent edwards >> winning the big ten championship last year, seeing that confetti fall, getting to enjoy those types of moments with these guys.that's going to be apart of history for forever. p.j. thmpson >> last year winning the big ten championship against iu. it was one of our goals when we came into the season, and it was one of our goals when we came into purdue. isaac haas >> no, i wouldn't. dakota mathias >> no i don't think so. it's been an up and down ride but it's been fun so i don't think i would change a lot. p.j. thompson >> no i wouldn't. i think i've worked really hard to get better each and every year. i played for purdue rather than playing for myself. vincent edwards >> i wouldn't say regrets, you are where you are because of the choices that you made in your life. the only change i would make is, i can't even say honeslty because it loses it's touch to your life because all those lessons are life lessons and life meanings. p.j. thompson >> thank you. i think he's under appreciated as a coach. i think he does an extremely good job with his players. i would want to thank him for being the only big ten team to offer me a scholarship. vincent edwards >> coach painter i that your for giving me the opportunity to become a great player and letting me come to this prestegious university. thank you. isaac haas >> love you man. you've stuck with me thrugh thick and thin, it's made me a better person and who i am today.dakota mathias >> tansferred, no one quit on each other. we did it to t he best of out ability. isaac haas >> love these guys. been through thick and thin with them as well. just went to war with those guys. i'll always have their backs and if they ever need anything they can call me.@# 3#@announcer >> three! isaiah thompson. purdue announcer >> p.j. thompson! @# 3so p-j thomps in his final ncaa tournament .. but you haven't seen the last of the thompson's in west lafayette.. p-j's younger brother .. isaiah thompson plans on suiting up for the boilermakers two years from now.the purdue commit just finished his junior season at zionsville .. the thompson brother's college careers will obviously never overlap but they have been bonded by similar things: to prove people wrong and for their nana.karen smith passed away three years ago at the age of 65 after a battle with lung cancer ..while karen has missed her two grandson's grow as basketball players and young men ..they know she's watching from above. 3#@isaiah thompson >> she was oe of my best friends honestly. i use to always hang out with her. she always out others beforherself. i know it was really tough losing her. it was a tough time for my family and i. i know she's looking down on me and my brother proud of what we have accomplished so far. p.j thompson >> my grandma would be super proud, super excited. huge basketball fan of ours. she tried to make as many games tournaments, no matter if we played in indiana or across the states, she would always travel and watch up play. she would be so proud of the way isaiah's career is going and obviously with me finishing up well at purdue.@# 3>> "the backbone of the family." that's what p-j added about nana.it gives you an idea of how much she meant especially to her grandchildren.>>well the thompson family's not the only one we're checking in with tonight...coming up... something that can leave even a 7-foot giant, in tears... #@isaac haas >> and lastly i just want to thanks everyone in the community for helping my sister (crowd cheers).@#>> it's a follow-up to a story we first brought you last summer about erin haas and her ongoing fight ... but the
