Large Crowd Gathers in Melbourne in Memory of Comedian Eurydice Dixon

Vigils were held across Australia on June 18 in memory of comedian Eurydice Dixon, who was killed in the early hours of June 13 as she made her way home from a stand-up gig in Melbourne’s CBD.The 22-year-old’s body was found by a passer-by in Princes Park in North Carlton, about half a mile from her home.

A 19-year-old man named as Jaymes Todd was charged with her rape and murder.Dixon’s death has sparked a national conversation about women’s safety in public places.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull spoke about her death in parliament saying: “Women must be safe everywhere.

On the street, walking through a park, in their homes, at work.”A memorial was set up in the Princes Park in the days following Dixon’s death.

Mourners were shocked to find the site vandalized with offensive graffiti on Monday morning.

The graffiti was removed ahead of the candlelit vigil, shown in this video, that was due to take place that evening.
