Walgreens To Compete With Amazon, CVS With Drug Delivery
Walgreens is getting ready to compete with Amazon and other retailers when it comes to prescription delivery services. The drugstore chain announced it's partnering with FedEx to launch a next-day prescription drug delivery program called Walgreens Express. And earlier this year, CVS Health started a similar service as well. Experts say these can be a game-changer for people who don't have easy access to a pharmacy. But there could be another motive behind launching the services, and that's to stay a step ahead of Amazon. The online retail giant acquired online pharmacy PillPack earlier this year as it aims to venture into the prescription drug market -- and companies are noticing. Walgreens Express already offers same-day delivery in some cities, including New York, Chicago and Miami. There's a $4.99 fee for the upcoming next-day delivery, and customers will have to place their order by 4 p.m.
