Deadly Nairobi hotel attack carried out by suspected Somali militants

NAIROBI, KENYA โ€” At least six people were killed on Tuesday when suspected militants attacked a luxury hotel complex in Nairobi, according to France 24.

According to Kenyan Police Chief Joseph Boinnet, the attack began around 3 p.m.

Local time when gunmen threw bombs destroying three vehicles in the I&M Bank parking lot.

The gunmen then entered the lobby of the DusitD2 hotel, where one blew himself up.

Gunfire and explosions could be heard throughout the compound, reported BBC.

The government said all buildings had been secured by late Tuesday.

According to the BBC, local media report that around 30 people are being treated at Nairobi hospitals.

According to the BBC, the Somali-based militant group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
