Rep. Ocasio-Cortez 'Schooling' Fellow Dems on Social Media
Freshman lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez schooled fellow Democrats on using social media, reports USA Today.????The House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee’s meeting featured the Congresswoman from New York, Representative Jim Himes of Connecticut and officials from Twitter on “the most effective ways to engage constituents on Twitter and importance of digital storytelling.”????The party’s goal is to close the generational divide between lawmakers and tech platforms, following hearings over the past year where members of Congress were confused on what Google and Facebook did and how they made money.????Himes said “The older generation of members and senators is pretty clueless on the social media platforms. It’s pretty clear that a lot of members have 25-year-olds in their offices, running their social media.”????Himes, who runs his own Twitter account may be the exception along with Ocasio-Cortez who has amassed over 2.4 million followers and according to Newsweek, that number is as many followers as the other 63 Democratic freshman House members combined.
