(ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION) The father of an Israeli university student who was killed in Melbourne visited the site where her body was found on Friday (January 18), as hundreds of people gathered outside the Victorian State Parliament for a vigil in her honour.
Aiia Maasarwe, 21, was attacked and killed as she returned to the university's campus in Melbourne's northeast, where she had been on a study abroad program, after watching a comedy show.
Her body was found by passers-by near La Trobe University early on Wednesday (January 16), Victoria state police said in a statement.
Police on Friday said they had arrested a 20-year-old man over the killing.
No other details about the man were released.
Maasarwe's father, Saeed, was comforted by strangers on Friday as he looked at flowers and notes where her body was found.
Maasarwe was the second woman killed in similar circumstances in Melbourne in seven months, and her death has recharged outrage over violence against women in the city.
