High Death Toll Reported in Taliban Attack on Security Forces Training Center

A Taliban attack on a military compound in central Afghanistan killed more than 120 security personnel, according to an anonymous defense ministry official cited by Reuters.

Other reports gave lower casualty reports.

Tolo News reported that 24 people were officially confirmed killed or injured; however, they were told unofficially by a provincial council member that the number of casualties was more than 50.

Eyewitnesses cited by Tolo News said that one attacker detonated a Humvee at the National Directorate of Security (NDS) training center before four other attackers, dressed in NDS uniforms, stormed the base.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
