According to a report by Reuters, on Wednesday, the Australian government said that China has detained a Chinese-Australian writer who had flown in from New York last week, and that the circumstances surrounding why he was being held remain unknown.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade reportedly said that Chinese authorities had informed the Australian embassy in Beijing that they had detained the writer, Yang Hengjun.
