Parkland father clashes with lawmaker in guns hearing

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Manuel Oliver, the father of Parkland shooting victim Joaquin Oliver, was almost removed from a House Judiciary Committee hearing on gun violence after yelling at Florida Rep.

Matt Gaetz who opposed the bipartisan House bill HR 8 that would require background checks for all gun sales and added a wall was needed to stop illegal immigrants from getting guns.

"HR 8 would not have stopped many of the circumstances I raised, but a wall, a barrier on the southern border may have and that's what we're fighting for," the Florida lawmaker said.

Oliver stood up and yelled at Gaetz.

Democratic Representative David Cicilline then asked Chairman Jerry Nadler if there was any committee rule that 'prevents a member of Congress from reciting false statements in a committee hearing', which got cheers from the audience.

After the question, Gaetz asked the chairman if there was a process to remove people who repeatedly interrupted members.
