Protesters Stage Climate Change Sit-in at Parliament House, Canberra

Protesters blocked the foyer of Parliament House in the Australian capital of Canberra on Wednesday, February 13, forcing the area to be closed to visitors.The protesters demanded action following January’s Murray Darling fish kills.Thousands of fish died when the river system after a catastrophic drop in oxygen levels.Indigenous group Seed, part of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, sat on the floor of Parliament House chanting, making speeches and singing before leaving after about an hour.The group called on the government to “protect country”, meaning indigenous land and culture.
