China and the US Will Move Forward With Trade Talks

High-level trade talks between the U.S. and China are set to continue as a deadline for the two countries to reach an agreement fast approaches.

According to a statement from the White House, both parties made some headway during the "detailed and intensive" talks held this week in Beijing.

But the statement added that "much work remains." The White House says officials will resume discussions in Washington next week, and the U.S. is hoping to see additional progress.

The trade war between the U.S. and China has gone on for months now.

Both countries have slapped tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars of each other's goods since the dispute started.

And President Donald Trump  threatened to up the ante and increase those tariffs  if negotiators can't come to an agreement by March 1.

But earlier this week, President Trump suggested he would push that deadline back if officials made progress during their talks.
