El Chapo's Lawyer Files Motion Challenging Conviction
According to Reuters, a lawyer representing Joaquin Guzman filed a motion challenging his conviction on 10 criminal counts related to drug trafficking.
Known as El Chapo, the 61-year-old was found guilty on all 10 counts by jurors during a federal trial.
The notorious drug cartel kingpin was the head of the Sinaloa Cartel for, which became a powerful drug trafficking organizations during the 1990s and 2000s.
The motion against Guzman's conviction is related to a juror's comment made to Vice News.
Although Judge Brian Cogan instructed the jurors to avoid reading news coverage of the trial while it proceeded, the juror claimed they ignored that instruction.
