Landowner says he's being charged $286,000 over road project

A Grand Chute man claims he is being charged over $280,000 for a project to fix a road he owns land on.

The Town of Grand Chute is planning a is planning a 3-million-dollar makeover of Elsner Road.

However, through a street assessment for this plan, the town claims Ron Wolff must pay $286,000 as part of the project.

Ron Wolff owns two properties on Elsner Road, adding up to around 985 feet of land.

The project aims to improve the new street and sidewalks.

Grand Chute pays for special projects like these by charging special assessments to property owners, which is why Wolff claims he received a bill for over $280,000 to pay for it.

Wolff says he doesn’t have that kind of money.

NBC26 reached out to the Grand Chute Public Works Department for an explanation.

They say Wolff’s assessment plan falls into their city’s policy for how they go about business, based on the amount of land Wolff owns and the business he does in the area.

Public Works say they will work with some people.

As far as cutting down the cost of Wolff’s payments, that is something apparently worked through on the county board.

A public meeting is planned for 6 p.m.

Wednesday to address the project and the special assessment payments.

Wolff says he plans to fight this because he says he has never paid that much money for land before.
