Senate Blocks Trump's National Emergency Declaration

The Republican-led Senate  passed a resolution  that would block President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration to help fund a U.S.-Mexico border wall.  The vote was mostly along party lines, but several Republicans supported the bill, including Sens.

Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski.

The measure passed the House easily toward the end of February — 245-182.  The resolution will now head to the president's desk, who has said he will "100 percent" veto it.

But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters he doesn't think lawmakers have the two-thirds majority needed in each chamber to override that expected veto.

President Trump has been  hit with several legal challenges  since declaring a national emergency.  The declaration  allows the president to access certain government funding to pay for a border wall without going through Congress.
