A new study published in the medical journal JAMA, shows that people who eat three or four eggs a day have a higher risk of both heart disease and early death.

((VO-Eggs))??A new study shows that eggs may not be so good for you.????((VO-Eggs/Lifeline))??The research published in the medical journal JAMA, explains that that the dietary cholesterol in eggs is associated with a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease and early death.????((VO-Heart Monitor))??Researchers found that people who eat three or four eggs a day or any equivalent of 300 mg of dietary cholesterol are at a 3.2% higher risk of heart disease and a 4.4% higher risk of early death.????((VO-Yolk/Eggs))??The lead author of the study said “Eggs, specially the yolk, are a major source of dietary cholesterol.” In the study, experts found that a single large egg contains about 186 mg of cholesterol.????((VO-People Walking/Hospital))??The researchers looked at data from U.S. study groups including more than 29-thousand people.

The people were followed for approximately 17 and ½ years.

During that time 5,400 cardiovascular events occured and 113 heart disease deaths, according to the research.????((VO-Eggs))??The author of the study notes that the research was observational and could not prove that dietary cholesterol or eating eggs directly causes diseases or death.????((VO-Heart))??The CDC notes that heart disease is the cause of death for more than 600-thousand people each year.??
