'The Earth is on Fire': Nairobi Students Join Youth Climate Protest
Students and activists rallied inside Karura Forest in Nairobi, Kenya, on Friday, March 15, joining a worldwide “strike” demanding stronger policies to address climate change.
This footage shows demonstrators chanting “the Earth is on fire.” The “school strike” movement for climate change action has spread since August 2018, when Greta Thunberg, a Swedish 16-year-old, skipped school and began protesting outside the Swedish parliament.
On March 15, protests began in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific, before spreading to Asia, Africa, and Europe later in the day.
