Democrats "expect" full Mueller report by April 2

HAKEEM JEFFIRES, (D) - NEW YORK, SAYING: "We expect that the attorney general will disclose it no later than April 2." Days after Robert Mueller cleared President Trump of collusion with Russia, Democrats on Capitol Hill are putting up a brave front, demanding Attorney General William Barr publicly release the special counsel's full report on Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and insisting their fight for answers is far from over.

Democrats want to probe Barr's decision not to pursue obstruction of justice charges against Trump, despite the firing of former FBI director James Comey and Trump's numerous attacks on Mueller.

Prior to his appointment by Trump, Barr had written a detailed memo casting strong doubt on whether Trump could be charged with obstruction.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler has vowed to press Barr on how he reached his decision.

HAKEEM JEFFRIES, (D) - NEW YORK, SAYING: "I think the first step as Jerry Nadler has indicated is to the receive the report and then we'll proceed thereafter with possibility of testimony from the attorney general and deputy attorney general." But first Democrats will have to see how the Justice Department responds to several legal and policy hurdles.

One is a DoJ policy against releasing disparaging material on people who have not been charged with crimes.

Another is a law to keep secret information obtained from grand jury proceedings.

Jeffries says the presumption of secrecy should be overcome.

HAKEEM JEFFRIES, (D) - NEW YORK, SAYING: "In this case, with Russia's attack on our democracy and potential cooperation with members of the campaign having been the subject of the investigation, there is certainly a compelling national interest." If certain information is not released, Democrats could bring a lawsuit, but experts say that process could take months.

Trump has said he wouldn't mind if the report were released but that it remains up to Barr.
