DHS Secretary Nielsen: Border Immigration a ‘Cat 5 Hurricane Disaster’

The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen equated the illegal immigration at the U.S. southern border to a major natural disaster.????In February, President Trump declared a state of national emergency at the U.S./Mexico border and re-directed already allocated funds to building his border wall…????...while that has been challenged by Congress and now in the courts, the president has also threatened to close the border as another reported migrant caravan approaches.????Appearing on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight”, DHS Secretary Nielsen talked about how the agency is responding...????SOT Nielsen??“...we’re now treating this like a massive ‘cat 5’ hurricane disaster.

We are bringing all of the inner agency together, we’re asking everybody to chip in, we need to surge down as many resources as we can to the border...but Congress needs to look at this like a hurricane too, right?”????Nielsen also said that the security and humanitarian aspects of the border situation make it “...one of, if not the biggest crisis this country has faced in a decade”????Host Tucker Carlson asked if it’s truly a crisis, would they be sending U.S. military to the border???Nielson replied “I think we’re looking into that.

We’ve made that request.”????Active duty soldiers are already in place at the southern border.????In February, an additional 3,750 troops were deployed, which NPR reported raised the total number of U.S. soldiers there to nearly 6,000.
