Representative Ilhan Omar on Wednesday responded to President Trump’s threat to close the US-Mexico border.

Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar on Wednesday responded to President Trump's threat to close the US-Mexico border.  "This is a fake emergency!

Donald Trump is lying about the border in order to build his monument to racism," she tweeted. Omar also shared a link to Trump's recent statement on the matter. "Congress must get together and immediately eliminate the loopholes at the Border!

If no action, Border, or large sections of Border, will close," Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning.

"This is a National Emergency!"  Trump has made that threat a number of times over the past week, and, in addition to turning to Congress for a solution, has called upon Mexico to limit the number of migrants that reach the US-Mexico border.  On Tuesday, he acknowledged that shutting the border down will have harmful economic consequences due to that action's impact on trade, but continued: "Security is more important to me than trade.

So we're going to have a strong border or we're going to have a closed border."
