France Calls For Calm As U.S. Labels Iran's Revolutionary Guards A Terrorist Group
According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, France called for avoiding any escalation of tensions in the Middle East region after President Donald Trump said that he would name Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization.
The French foreign ministry reportedly replied that France remained committed to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, adding, "We urge people to avoid escalating tensions or destabilizing the region." The action by Trump marks the first time the United States has formally labeled another nation’s military a terrorist group.
Iranian state-run TV reported that the U.S. action, which officially takes effect on April 15, prompted an immediate response from Iran, whose Supreme National Security Council in turn designated U.S. military forces as a “terrorist organization."
