Baltimore Mayor Resigns Amid Questions Over $500,000 Book Deal
According to a report by Reuters, on Thursday, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, whose homes and offices were raided by federal agents last week as part of an investigation into her financial dealings, resigned from her position abruptly.
In a statement read by her lawyer, Pugh, the former Democratic state lawmaker, apologized for harming the city's image.
In her resignation letter, Pugh reportedly said, “I am confident that I have left the city in capable hands for the duration of the term to which I was elected." Reuters reports that City Council President Bernard “Jack” Young will become acting mayor following Pugh's abrupt resignation.
