Christian Lobby Group's Advice For Israel Folau Supporters: Pray
The head of the Australian Christian Lobby has urged supporters of Israel Folau to pray, following the rugby star’s controversial sacking on May 17 after he expressed homophobic views on social media.
Martyn Iles, the group’s managing director, on Friday posted a video calling for Christians to come together in support of the fallen Wallabies fullback.
“This case is our case,” Mr Iles said.
“And it’s our case because if we believe what Israel Folau believed, or indeed if we want to be able to believe anything that is controversial or different from the mainstream, we too now face the prospect of being found guilty of a breach of the values or codes of conduct like this, which exist all through society.” “There’s something you can do.
Firstly, you can pray.
You can pray for his appeal to the Supreme Court, which seems to be likely now.
Pray for a good result.
Pray also for Israel and his family.” Mr Iles urged supporters to visit the ACL’s website to sign an open letter pledging support to Folau.
As of Friday evening, the letter had been signed by more than 34,700 people.
Following news of his sacking, Folau’s Twitter handle, @IzzyFolau, was mentioned more than 2000 times on May 17.
