Mary's has been a staple of downtown janesville... ((( , " "))) 23 08 32 st mary's is an amazing community.

But recently..

The historic school..

Has faced some of its worst challenges to date.

((( , " "))) 23 06 55 at the end of the day, we need to have more money.

Principal matt parish says it's partially a result of a drop in enrollment... ((( , " "))) 23 04 42 any time you go to mass it seems like there's less people going, and there's less kids in catholic schools just days ago..

The school announced it could possibly be cutting 6th..

7th..

And 8th grade entirely... parents like dan cunningham formed a group..

Trying to find a solution.

((( , " "))) 22 54 09 all we really wanted as a community was a chance to be heard.

The parents..

And the parish agreed not to cut the grades... but now the school will have to raise roughly 550 thousand between tuition and fundraising.

Dan says..

That's something they're willing to do..

((( , " "))) 22 56 24 we'll raise it because we have to.

And we'll do it year after year because this place needs to stay.

((( , " "))) 22 55 40 this place needs to stay an icon for decades and hopefully centuries to come principal parish says right now..

The school has 124 enrolled students... ideally... it could hold about 170... but he and others are hoping the influx in fundraising could be enough to bride the gap... in janesville... adam duxter, news 3 now.
