China trade frustrations grow for Iowa soybean farmers

ROUGH CUT (no reporter narration) STORY: Iowa soybean farmers Dave Walton and Don and Pat Swanson say they are growing increasingly frustrated as the U.S. trade dispute with China continues.

Talks appeared to be on track for an agreement before relations soured this month, pushing U.S. soybean futures to their lowest in more than a decade.

The world's two largest economies have been locked in a 10-month trade war that has upset global supply chains and rattled financial markets.

U.S. farmers, who helped carry President Donald Trump to his 2016 election win, have been among the hardest-hit as China has imposed tariffs on imports of U.S. agricultural products, including soybeans in response to U.S. tariffs to Chinese goods.

Walton told Reuters, "Until things get resolved in the market side, we're going to see some pretty ugly years."
