Riot Police Called in as Romanian Voters, Frustrated by Delays, Climb Fence at Hague Embassy
Dutch riot police intervened at the Romanian Embassy in The Hague on Sunday, May 26, as long delays were reported by Romanian citizens waiting to vote in the European parliamentary elections.
Some began climbing over fences, while others were turned away after spending hours in line.
The Romanians in The Hague were just a few of thousands of other Romanians across the EU who were denied their vote.
On the day, Romanians were also voting in a national referendum on anti-corruption legislation.
Support for Romania’s ruling Social Democrats slumped in the vote, according to exit polls.
