What to Watch for at Apple's WWDC 2019

Apple's annual developer conference kicks off on June 3, and it could be a pivotal one for the company.

Less than three months after Apple's big services reveal in March, Apple's weeklong WWDC event could shed more light on Apple's plans for the remainder of 2019 and beyond.

Apple As iPhone unit sales have slowed in recent quarters, Apple's growing slate of services offerings are a critical piece of its strategy.

At a keynote on Monday, the tech giant is expected to announce a wide array of updates across various platforms, including iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS.

There are a few themes especially worth watching, however.

Apple is set to reveal iOS13, its latest mobile operating system.

Last year, Apple also announced plans for cross-platform app functionality, an under-the-hood improvement that could simplify app development.

At the same time, Apple is also expected to introduce more homegrown apps of its own, which could place it in competition with its own development community.

A new watchOS is also on the way, and upgrades to the Apple Watch operating system could make the device more independent from the iPhone.

A standalone Apple Watch store may foster development on the platform as well as drive sales.

Finally, an update to tvOS is also likely.

While that platform doesn't get as much attention as iOS or macOS, updates to tvOS could offer a glimpse into Apple's TV plans.

Currently, Apple's media streaming options are scattered across multiple products, including Apple TV, iTunes and others.
