ICE to remove ‘millions’ of illegal immigrants: Trump

President Donald Trump said on Monday that U.S. authorities would begin next week removing millions of immigrants who are in the United States illegally.

Yahaira Jacquez reports.

President Donald Trump is threatening to deport millions of people living in the United States illegally.

In a late night Tweet, Trump announced that U.S. immigration and Customs enforcement - known as ICE - will begin the operation next week.

According to the Washington Post , ICE officials were not aware the president planned to reveal their enforcement plans on Twitter, since the agency's operations are usually kept secret.

The post also noted that Trump's claim that the agency will deport millions runs contrary to its staffing and budgetary challenges, with agents busy managing the tide of Central American migrants arriving at the border with Mexico.

The president has threatened a series of drastic actions to try and stop the flow of migrants coming to the U.S. Just recently, Trump said he would slap mexico with tariffs if it didn't do more but dropped those plans when its southern neighbor came to the negotiating table and made an agreement that included mexico deploying its national guard troops to stop the migrants.

The tweet comes as the President is set to launch his re-election bid Tuesday.

He campaigned in 2016 on the promise that he take a hard stance against illegal immigration and would build a wall on the U.S. southern border.

But the problem has gotten worse, as monthly arrests at the U.S. border reach levels not seen in over a decade.
