England captain Morgan not daring to dream of lifting World Cup

Eoin Morgan expects World Cup final opponents New Zealand to have improved after the tournament's group stage.

SOUNDBITE (English) ENGLAND CAPTAIN EOIN MORGAN SAYING: "I haven't allowed myself to think about lifting the trophy.

Cricket and sport in particular is very fickle.

If you ever get ahead, it always seems to bite you in the backside, so for us to win it, I think around the country it would be awesome, great for the game.

I think quite iconic in certainly young kids' memory if they are watching it at home and we manage to lift the trophy, it would be awesome." 2.

SOUNDBITE (English) ENGLAND CAPTAIN EOIN MORGAN, SAYING: "I think we will need to, yeah.

New Zealand are an extremely tough side, with a lot of experience, a lot of skill.

They were the best side in the group stage and they improved, very similar to us, from the group stage to the semifinal performance.

So we are striving to improve on our performance.

No doubt they will." 4.

OLD FATHER TIME WEATHER VANE ON TOP OF STAND STORY: England captain Eoin Morgan says his team hope to inspire a generation by winning the World Cup on home soil on Sunday (July 13).

But the Irishman says he hasn't allowed himself to imagine lifting the trophy.

Morgan's side take on New Zealand at Lord's in the final of the competition, and go into the game as favourites after beating Australia comfortably in the semi final.

However Kane Williamson's team are in their second consecutive final and have already defied the odds by reaching this stage.

The Lord's wicket was greener than expected 24 hours before the start of the game, and although Morgan said he expected it to be drier and harder than it looks by the time of the toss, he still predicted a "battle" where a score of under 300 would be enough to win the trophy.
