Protests Cause Chaos at Hong Kong MTR Stations

Anti-government protesters caused major disruptions to train services at several subway stations during rush hour in Hong Kong on July 30, local media reported.

Protesters stood in doorways and prevented trains from leaving, causing delays, the suspension of services, and congested platforms at Admiralty, Tiu Keng Leng and North Point MTR stations, the South China Morning Post reported.

Police were called to remove some protesters, according to an update from MTR.

Long lines formed outside stations as shuttle buses were organized to transport passengers.

This footage, filmed by local journalist Rachel Yeo, shows protesters chanting, β€œHong Kong police are breaking the law!” at North Point station, while other footage shows passengers stranded behind the North Point station barriers.

Another clip from Yeo shows protesters preventing trains from leaving Tiu Keng Leng station.

Yeo also filmed the moment an elderly man clashed with police at Tiu Keng Leng.

Some train lines returned to normal operations at about 11:30 am, the South China Morning Post reported.
