Police and Protesters Clash Outside Kwai Chung Police Station

Demonstrators gathered outside Kwai Chung Police Station in Hong Kong on Tuesday, July 30, calling for the release of their fellow protesters detained on Sunday, but the situation became violent as riot police charged at them outside the building.

This livestreamed footage shows protesters emerging from Kwai Fong MTR station and congregating at the front of the police station nearby.

The group of protesters had gathered over several hours outside the police station and footage shows them welcoming the release of some of their friends.

Tension was building steadily at the site and escalated in the evening when riot police emerged from the station to disperse the crowds.

Protesters were concerned about the welfare of those detained inside, following reports from police that 44 of them were to be charged with rioting after Sundayโ€™s demonstration, which turned violent.

Earlier on Tuesday, protesters caused disruption to subway services by standing in doorways and preventing trains from leaving.

The action caused delays, the suspension of service, and congested platforms at Admiralty, Tiu Keng Leng and North Point MTR stations, the South China Morning Post reported.
