Fredrick Brennan's admission on Tuesday (August 6) follows the deaths of 70 people in three separate shooting incidents in New Zealand, California and Texas.

All three gunmen were believed to have posted open letters and manifestos to 8chan before their attacks.

Brennan, who started 8chan in 2013 as a means of free speech, has been calling for its shut down due to the site's violent nature.

U.S. cyber security firm Cloudflare on Monday (August 5) said it would terminate 8chan as a customer after a gunman used the messaging forum prior to killing 20 people at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas last week.

On Tuesday, 8chan was inaccessible.
