Hong Kong airport protesters 'thank' civil servants for support

The protest in the busy Hong Kong International Airport came one day after China's aviation regulator on Friday (August 9) demanded Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways to suspend personnel who have engaged in "illegal" protests in the city from staffing flights into its airspace from August 10.

Protesters said they 'are not surprised' by news that China has ordered the national carrier to suspend its staff who supported the protest movement, but thanked the civil servants for participating in the protests.

Increasingly violent protests have plunged Hong Kong into its most serious political crisis for decades, posing a serious challenge to the central government in Beijing.
