France Says Social Media Pledge Has Been Delayed

France said it was optimistic about social media platforms signing a pledge to fight online hate speech.

According to Reuters, the country wants them to sign “Charter for an Open, Free, and Safe Internet.” While the signing did not take place as planned, France said it’s only been delayed but will be signed.

Those expected to sign the agreement are Google, Facebook and Snapchat.

Secretary of State for the Digital Sector of France said the U.S. was initially against the pledge.
