Nuclear Power Threats: Trump Has Scientists Scratching Their Head

Donald Trump recently threatened the Taliban with "power the likes of which the US has never used before." However, he is now stressing that he was not talking about nuclear weapons.

"And I'm not even talking about nuclear power.

They will have never seen anything like what will happen to them." There is nothing even close to the power of a modern thermonuclear warhead.

A number of the US's leading arms control experts are struggling to make sense of what Trump said.

"Conventional weapons could certainly create a lot of rubble in Afghanistan but even the largest conventional bomb doesn't even come close to the explosive power of lowest-yield of a nuclear weapon." Hans Kristensen of the Federation of American Scientists Trump has said several times the US will bring power greater than a nuclear bomb to bear on US enemies.

Trump's threats towards the Taliban comes just days after an invite and then cancellation of a meeting at Camp David.
