As oxycontin manufacturer purdue pharma files for bankruptcy... some states have not signed on to a tentative settlement agreement.
Earlier this year... wisconsin filed suit against two purdue pharma entities and richard sackler... a former president for the pharmaceutical company.
The suit alleges the company use deceptive marketing that contributed to the opioid epidemic.
Some states have reached a tentative agreement with the company... but wisconsin attorney general josh kaul decided against that.
In a recent interview with news 8..
The state attorney general said the proposal didn't go far enough to ensure accountability.
"members of the sackler family have made billions and billions of dollars from purdue pharma and the devastation of the opioid epidemic has caused has been enormous.
So we think they need to do more to contribute to efforts that are going to fund treatment, education, and other prevention efforts."
Kaul said they're going to work to ensure the sackler family pays their fair share despite purdue pharma going bankrupt.
New york's attorney general has alleged in court filings... that the family used swiss and other bank accounts to transfer one billion dollars to themselves.
