Thanks for joining us tonight..

Like many americans, president trump spent part of his morning watching part of the house intelligence committee hearing on the whistleblower complaint// the complaint says white house officials tried to stash records of the president's phone call with the ukraine leader// that phone call is now the center of the political firestorm and impeachment inquiry.

Natalie brand has more from capitol hill// president trump lashed out after thursday's congressional hearing on the newly-revealed whistleblower complaint.

'it's a disgrace to our country.

It's another witchhunt...here we go again.'

The nine page complaint made public thursday accuses the president of: "...among other things, pressuring a foreign country to investigate one of the president's main domestic political rivals."

The complaint focuses on a july 25th phone call between president trump and the president of ukraine.

A white house summary of the conversation indicates the president repeatedly urged the ukrainian leader to investigate former vice president joe biden and his son, hunter.

Joseph maguire, the acting director of national intelligence defended his handling of the complaint before congress ''whistleblower says 'i have received information from multiple government officials that the president of the united states is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 u.s. election.

You would agree that should be investigated, would you not?'' ''chairman, the horse has left the barn.

You have all of the information.'' the complaint also alleges white house officials scrambled to quote ''lock down'' records and re-direct them to a server for classified information.

The white house - and republican lawmakers defending the president- have seized on a portion of the complaint in which the whistleblower acknowledges not being a direct witness to most of the events described.

"president trump should be allowed to know who these people are.

Because they're talking about impeaching him based on secondhand information."

In audio obtained by the los angeles times, president trump at a fundraising breakfast said he wants to know who gave the whistleblower information-and suggested that person may be a traitor.

You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart?

Right?

The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now.

The new york times reports the whistleblower is a c.i.a.

Officer.

President trump temporarily froze nearly $400 million in military aid to ukraine just days before the call with the ukraine president.

Impeachment is one of the most serious duties delegated to congress.

It can also be one of the least understood, largely because it is so rarely used.

Our quentin smith sits down with a political science professor to find out more about the process..

House democrats are moving forward with a formal impeachment inquiry into the conduct of president trump..

Mississippi state associate professor dr. brian shoup says this is typically the first step in an impeachment process... "impeachment is a procedure by which the house of representatives essentially provides a sort of constitutionally mandated rebuke of the president based on constitutionally identifiable criteria.

That's treason and bribery, which are specific crimes, then a third category known as high crimes and misdemeanors."

If a president is accused of a crime, the house judiciary committee will then hold meetings and will draft articles of impeachment.

" should any of those articles be confirmed by the house judiciary committee, those articles will then go towards the full house of representatives, at which point a vote can be taken.

The president, if they vote is successful, is officially impeached."

In order for impeachment to happen there must be a majority vote in the house.

If a president is impeached...the case is then turned over to the senate where a trial will begin.

"the chief justice of our supreme court will preside over hearings that are intended to convict the president of those charges for which he had been impeached."

During the trial, the senate needs a two-thirds majority vote in order to convict.

If found guilty, the president would then be stripped of all duties and forced to leave office.

" our constitutional amendments have made it clear that there is a succession that occurs.

The vice president in this context would step in to discharge the duties of our nations chief executive."

Executive."

Take developing story stinger take vo in monitor the state department of health is reporting the first vaping- related death in mississippi.

Few details are being released other than the individual was younger than 30.

Courtney ann jackson has the latest information.

Four vaping-related illnesses in one week and this most recent resulting in death.

It's enough to prompt a stern warning from state health officials.

"let's be clear, none of these products are regulated.

None of them have cleared fda.

There's no oversight of what's in these.

Sometimes you get what you think you're buying but we know very clearly that sometimes people think they're buying one substance and they're getting something else.

We don't have any confidence that any vaping is safe."

This afternoon we received confirmation from the department of health that they now know three of the four vaping-related cases indicated a history of thc vaping.

Thc is the property in marijuana that makes a person high.

"nationally most of the cases have been associated with vaping some thc products but not all of the cases.

Some of the cases have been nicotine only products."

In order to fill in the blanks and better understand what's causing the sudden spike in illness and death linked to vaping---they're asking people to be upfront with their doctors if they vape and start having symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain or nausea.

"every bit of information we collect around these cases adds to the national knowledge for us to have a better understanding of what's really the cause."

It's too soon to know if this is the same case as the 27-year- old smithville woman.

The coroner originally said it could be vaping related.

But autopsy results aren't back yet.

However, the mississippi bureau of narcotics confirms it is conducting a criminal investigation concerning that case.

Highs each whenever a child is born in mississippi doctors are required to screen for certain diseases and disorders.

But what do doctors do with those results?

We find out more in tonight's health talk with baptist.

Hello.

I'm dr. pam sykes.

I'm pt of the pediatric team at baptist memorial hospital - golden triangle.

Tonight we are going to discuss how the newborn screening test results are used.

The results are mailed to the hospital of birth.

Your babies pediatrician will be notified of any abnormal newborn screening results by the mississippi state department of health.

It is very important that the hospital have the parents' correct last name, physical address, and a working telephone number because the health department willsend a letter to the parents if the results are abnormal or if recollection is needed.

Ask your baby's doctor about the screening results at the first well-baby checkup.

If the newborn screening was abnormal result, further testing may be required.

There are several reasons why a repeat screening may be needed, such as the screening is done incorrectly or the blood sample is collected too early.

Screening identifies those babies who may need more specific testing to accurately detect a disorder.

This second, confirmatory test does positively tell whether your child has a condition requiring further treatment.

Unfortunately there is no known cure these conditions.

However, the dangerous or serious effects of these conditions can be lessened with a special diet, medical treatment, or other intervention if started early.

Your doctor can discuss how a positive result can affect future children and refer you to a specialist about the specific condition and how it is inherited.

They can help you understand any risk for your future children.

Join us next time for healthtalk with baptist.
